Jaipur, the capital of the state of Rajasthan, ~260km southwest of Delhi, is a fine example of medieval city planning, museums, artwork and, of course, palaces. Raja
Jai Singh II built the capital in 1727 based on astrological guidelines (see the Jantar Mantar Astronomical Observatory
).
Our first destination in Jaipur was, curiously enough, not in Jaipur. Amber Fort is located in Amber, 9 km (5 miles) northeast of Jaipur, atop a hill. The images below are from this 300-year-old fortress.
