Udaipur is a beautiful city full of lakes, gardens and palaces. Founded by Maharana Udai Singh, king of the Sun Dynasty, Udaipur is home to City Palace and the Jagniwas in Lake Pichola (now Lake Palace Hotel) -- both of which are made of the same marble later used to build the Taj Mahal in Agra.
Entrance to City Palace (30m high). The 16th century
palace is now a royal residence, museum and luxury hotel.
Golden sun is symbol of Maharana (ie. chief of
chiefs). Since the Maharana was the king of the Sun Dynasty, the sun icon was displayed throughout the palace.
